The Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) is a conceptual framework designed to guide community responses to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders within the justice system. Explore how SIM identifies key intervention points—known as intercepts—where timely action can prevent individuals from progressing deeper into the justice system. Explore real world application in community policing and treatment courts—including impaired driving, drug, mental health, and veteran’s courts—and learn how these approaches reduce unnecessary arrests while connecting impaired drivers to appropriate treatment and support services.
